Vintage Booty
Yesterday was day three of being housebound with my sicky-poo.
Day one... I cooked (inspired). Day two... I curled my hair with hot rollers (bored). Day three.... the fever was gone and he was starting to drive me crazy (a good sign that he was better) so we went out to lunch and did a bit of shopping (stir crazy).
We went over the mountain and through the woods to our neighboring town, which isn't much bigger than ours, but it has some big-box stores (which are not allowed here in my little town), and better lunch restaurants. The idea was to go to K-Mart, and look for a hammock for Father's Day. K-Mart didn't have any hammocks, but just LOOK at what I found..... Martha Stewart plastic tumblers that look like vintage glasses. I swear my Great Aunt Peg had some that looked just like these!
OK, so while we were in K-Mart the power went out! (I told you!... and it wasn't even storming outside... nuts.) We were in the very back of the store, and suddenly it was pitch black. Very creepy. The funny thing was that we were in the sports section, and there were glow in the dark bats and balls on the shelf. That was all we could see. We made our way to the front of the store, and the power came on a few minutes later, and we were able to check out. Thank you, God of retro kitchen ware, because I was not leaving without those tumblers.
On the way home, we stopped at a barn/ antique shop. It's not really a shop, but this ancient old house, with a barn out back. The woman that lives there buys antiques and vintage stuff, and puts it in her barn out back. Every once in a while she puts up a sign on main street that says she's open. What a fun place. I was asking her about vintage kitchen stuff, and she told me that she has a bunch that isn't even unpacked yet. It was all I could do not to ask her if I could go inside and unpack it for her. I scored the green enameled roasting pan (needed it), the white glass measuring cup (could always use it), and the juice-o-mat (uh, whatever, it looks cool on the counter). When we got home, we were amazed how the new Martha tumblers, looked right at home with the vintage things... that Martha knows her stuff!
